“Invitato a rappresentare “The last performance” (1998), invece di presentare la pièce, ho deciso di tenere una conferenza sulle tematiche da essa affrontate. Ho la sensazione che questo lavoro, difficile, non sia stato capito realmente. Forse la pièce era brutta. Ma penso che i temi fossero importanti e questo è il motivo per cui vorrei cambiare il mio mezzo di comunicazione e usare la conferenza come strumento per provare ad esprimere meglio i punti di “The last performance”. Ricontestualizzerò la pièce a livello teoretico tramite i testi di Roland Barthes e Peggy Phelan, e ricontestualizzerò la mia situazione artistica in quel momento”. Jerome Bel

“Invited to perform “The last performance” (1998) I decided, instead of presenting the pièce, to make a lecture about its issues. I have the feeling that this difficult pièce hasn’t been really understood. Maybe the piece was bad. But I believe that the issues of this piece were relevant, that is why I would like to change my medium and use the tool of the lecture to try to articulate better the stakes of “The last performance”. I will re-contextualise the pièce in its theoretical level through the texts of Roland Barthes and Peggy Phelan and in my artistic situation at that time”. Jerome Bel
